Chloe Pate, a first-year medical student at Mercer University's School of Medicine, visited Irwin County Elementary School with a special gift. Ms. Pate brought a children's book written by former Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and shared it with the students in Mrs. Griffis' second grade class.
The students enjoyed the story of Veto, the Governor's Cat and learned about Georgia's government in the process. Ms. Pate donated the book to the I.C.E.S. media center after the read-aloud in honor of Governor Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal.
Ms. Pate, a graduate of Irwin County Schools, is a Nathan Deal Scholar at Mercer University School of Medicine and will train to provide primary care services to patients in rural areas. Ms. Pate hopes to return to Irwin County after completing her degree and residency.
