Murrell Wins Gift Basket

Gift Basket WinnerMaria Murrell was the winner of the National School Breakfast Week drawing at ICES.  Students were required to eat breakfast every day and have their punch card stamped, then those students' names were put into a drawing for the gift basket. Congratulations, Maria!

Grade 2 SOMs Decorate Tree

Grade 2 StudentsGrade 2 students of the month for the months of August, September, and October decorated the Christmas at McDonald's with ornaments they made by hand at school. They also had cookies and milk provided by McDonalds as a thank you. These students were treated as a reward for good behavior at school.

Cindy Sutton Named System Teacher of the Year

Cindy SuttonCongratulations to Ms. Cindy Sutton, fourth grade teacher at ICES, on being named System-Wide Teacher of the Year for the Irwin County School District. Ms. Sutton was honored at the regular Board of Education meeting last night and also received a surprise visit from her daughter Ashley, who drove for 6 hours yesterday to surprise her mom.

Ms. Sutton will retire at the end of the 17-18 school year with 30 total years of service to the state of Georgia, 25 of which have been as a teacher at Irwin County Elementary School. She also has another daughter, Shelby. Congratulations, Ms. Sutton! The ICES staff and faculty love you!

The 1-877-SAY-STOP toll- free hotline was created by the Georgia Department of Education. Students can anonymously report anyone who has a weapon, has threatened to bring a weapon to school, or has violated any other school safety rules. The hotline hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; after 5 p.m. all calls will be forwarded to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Callers will not be asked to reveal their identities. Make the call; you can make a difference!
