First Graders Hatch Chicks

Mrs. Spell's classUsing the Irwin EMC Grant she received, Mrs. Haley Spell purchased an incubator and classroom supplies to hatch chicks in her grade 1 class. The students looked at the eggs daily using a candeler to see embryo development. The chicks hatched right after the Thanksgiving break and they had an exceptional hatch rate: 14 of 15 eggs hatched!! The students have learned so much from this experience. Way to go, Mrs. Spell!
